The confusing factor is that they were not raving about the PXA255 300 MHZ Axim. They were raving about the PXA255 300MHZ processor. The processor as a piece independent of the Axim system performs much better than the PXA250 400MHZ. BUT in an Axim, there are still limits that are going to reduce that performance.

A PXA255 400MHZ is still going to be better than a PXA255 300MHZ.

Picture it this way, if the inside of an Axim is the highway and a program has to move back and forth between RAM and the processor, then the processor can be a 4 lane highway(PXA250 400MHZ), a 6 lane highway(PXA255 300 MHZ), 8 lane highway(PXA255 400MHZ) and the ram bus brings it down to two lanes. No matter how fast you go on those other portions of highway all of the models are going to get slowed down to where the average speeds are fairly close.

Man, I know that's one ugly analogy.
