I bought a Basic unit because I couldn't quite stretch my budget enough to get an Advanced. I've never been more happy with a Palm Device. I've used a Palm IIIc, Palm M130, Casio E-300 and my Axim. I've loved my Axim.

Later I purchased a 256MB CF card so I could extend my storage. And I think that is a better deal. Even if mine is a little slower, I've got more memory now than I would have had if I had just gotten the Advanced Model.

I use PocketNester often. It runs great. Every ROM I've used has worked just fine. Full Sound and Video without a glitch and I can 'Save Games' any time I want. I store the Program and ROMs on the CF Card and that does not seem to affect the performance.

I always run my unit at 300 Mhz 'Normal' Mode. I do notice a difference with 200Mhz or Powersave mode. I don't know anything about OverClocking. I'd rather not fry the thing I can't afford to replace it.
