I just joined this ppc thing recently, prior I had a T5 pda for about 1 week which I sold to buy an X30.

Anyways on the T5 I used picket divx encoder to transform the avi/divx file I had to a small enough palm format and used TCPMP to play the file. It worked perfect and your control over the software to decide the size of the file is good.

Example I took "Into the Blue" in a divx file format from 1.1gb size down to a 200mb file and the quality/audio were excellent.

This software is also available in ppc form and it is free as well. I have heard about fairuse and will give that a try. I found pocket divx encoder pretty fast encoding the file above in 25 minutes or under on my sons S754 A64 3100+ with onboard video and 1GB ram
