Rapid Clicking issue
I have the Dell/Navteq cabled GPS receiver and software, using an Axim x51v (A06 ROM). Just starting (trying, that is) to use the unit for the first time. When I plug in the receiver via the cable adapter, the Axim starts making a clicking/buzzing sound, and then the Axim becomes unstable. I am unable to get the autodetect to work (nothing happens). When I unplug the cable from the Axim, the Axim re-stabilizes. Dell sent a replacement receiver, which I tried this morning... same problem.
Everything else is working great on the Axim - all software, hardware, etc., except for this GPS. The Navteq software seems to work fine when the receiver is not plugged in. The "clicking/buzzing" sound is kinda like a geiger counter sound. Any suggestions? Is there a way to manually set the connection options? I notice that there's 16 COM ports for example, and I have no idea what the manual settings ought to be. I have a hunch that might solve the problem.
By the way: Dell support has been pretty unhelpful, to say the least. The first support person I spoke with said: "Try to soft reset" to which I said, "I've done that 3 times already." Then she said (without even inquiring if I had a backup!!!), "Do a hard reset" and continued on with which two buttons to press. I said, "No way am I doing a hard reset -- that's terrible advice..." etc.etc. Speaking to her supervisor was no help either. I did speak with a different tech the next day who sent me the replacement receiver (which did not fix the problem).
