Welcome.

My opinion was already stated in another thread here:

Below is the content:

Just another update. I've been experimenting with different install locations and different flash cards for map storage. I've also been testing on two different devices (a temporary privelege being a beta tester)

Here are my results-

#1 Put maps on a fast memory card.

No matter where you install your program, this is the absolute most important speed enhancement, especially running the large XL or XXL maps.

For my devices, an Axim X50v and a iPAQ h2215, the fastest card is an A-Data 2GB SD Card 50X (not the 150X, which is significantly slower in these PDAs). Right now (as of posting time) you can get it for $50 shipped.

I've been recommending this particular card, and all the feedback I get from those that bought it is positive.

#2 Once #1 is accomplished, install OCN to the most reliable place.

A. If you have lots of free RAM, your best install location is main memory. However, if you have your RAM full of programs/data and cannot free up more than enough RAM**, choose another location B or C below.

** In rough numbers:

25MB for QVGA and regional map,

30MB for QVGA and XL or XXL map.

30MB for VGA and regional map,

35MB for VGA and XL or XXL map.

where

QVGA= 240x320 screen resolution.

VGA=480x640 screen resolution.

NOTE: Add 10MB if you are using Windows Mobile 2003 operating system, to account for the storage RAM used installing the program.

B. (Non-WM5 users only) If you are using the XL or XXL maps, and/or do not have enough free RAM, your best install location would be on-board flash ROM ("Built-in storage" or "iPAQ File Store", etc.). These memory locations may be slightly slower for start-up than the SD card from #1, however the difference is minimal enough for me. And there is less chance of prefs.ini corruption in my estimation. (For WM5, the main memory installation location is this ROM.)

C. If you do not have significantly large on-board flash ROM (as in my h2215), and not enough RAM as previously stated, the best location would be the fast SD card where you have your maps.

Please note, if OCN is installed on a storage card, you must be very patient when turning off your device after exiting OCN. Give the program time to release memory and write your pref.ini, even though you have the today screen visibile!
