d'Oh!

Sorry for the delayed reply. I was on vacation in one of our national parks, blissfully disconnected from civilization. That is not to say that I was not looking forward to using my X5 & BT-359 GPS for navigating. In yet another senior moment I neglected to pack my charging cable. My main and backup batteries discharged resulting in a hard rest - leaving me with no BT drivers, no Mapopolis program. First thing I did when I got home was to install a backup program that creates self-executing files.

So, rybshik, here are the answers to your questions:
- my X5 is the 400Mhz model and I bought the big battery (lumpy but lasts long)
- I don't remember how it worked before the hard reset, but since I reinstalled everything I have the same issue as you do ~ if I power off my X5 without breaking the Bluetooth connection (I press "stop" on the Mapopolis GPS page) then I cannot power back on without a soft reset.
- I do not have the strange dimmed screen issue you describe.
- I patched the registry first per Eugenia's instructions - if you get a better result reversing the process please post and let me know.
- Thanks for the map offer, my subscription will last long enough for me to download all the maps I will need.
