This is what brought me to the above question:

I have a Work PC and a Home PC with their own cradles that have been syncing without issues for a year and half. Now both PC's suddenly respond with the message: "ActiveSync cannot connect to the Windows Mobile Powered Device. To Troubleshoot click Ok"

Well that is a no brainer. So, I click "OK".

When I click "Ok" the troubleshooter runs and tells me everything is just wonderful with the world as far as its scan has revealed. It then gives me a link to a help page at Microsoft which runs me though a number of things like uninstalling and reinstalling AS on the PCs, and eliminating problems with Firewalls, McAfees and settings in ActiveSync. The most recent thing that I came to on the Microsoft site was a statement telling me to uninstall and reinstall Activesync of both the computers and the PDA. As part of the instructions on uninstalling AS on the Mobile Device it told me to go to Settings>>Remove Program>>>and choose "ActiveSync" from the list of programs. I followed those instruction and Activesync wasn't there. " Mmm....."says I. " I did what MS said to do.....why isn't AS on the list? Perhaps one of the users over in the Axim forum will be able to shed some light on just why it is that I can't find it." So I asked.

What I know now:

(1) Microsoft doesn't know what its talking about because AS is part of the ROM and can't be uninstalled. I'm guessing some older version of their operating system didn't have AS including as an integral component and they failed to update their trouble shooting instructions on their website. Either that or Activesync has always been part of the ROM and whoever put the webpage together at Microsoft didn't know what the heck he was talking about.

(2) Following written troubleshooting directions from Microsoft and asking why something isn't there that they claim should be there is "assuming the solution" Heck, I thought it was just a possible solution that Microsoft was telling me to try as part of the troubleshooting process. Who knew?

(3) I don't know how to ask good questions. My only question was "Why isn't ActiveSync showing on the uninstall list?" I'm pretty sure that there isn't a better way to ask that, but I'm always open to suggestions. However, I'm thinking the proof is in the pudding. I found out what it was that I wanted to know, which is AS is not supposed to be on the Remove Programs list and Microsoft was wrong for suggesting that as a possible solution.

Example,

<Cite errors here>

I have done X and X to troubleshoot the problem, could the problem be on the axim?"

read the post in my signature on how to ask good questions....

(I am only pointing out that if you are attempting to remove AS from the Axim, you are barking up the wrong tree)
