I found out what it was that I wanted to know, which is AS is not supposed to be on the Remove Programs list and Microsoft was wrong for suggesting that as a possible solution.

I finally solved this one over the weekend - trying to uninstall AS4.5 from the PC.
Go to Microsoft.com and download AS4.5 again from there and run it - you will then get two choices - repair current installation or uninstall - chose the 2nd and it will be removed from your system. Odd that it will not show up under the Remove Programs list in XP - but this process will get rid of it.
