Ripping parts of a DVD

Hi, I'm new to the tools for doing this sort of stuff, I wanted to rip a few chapters from a sports coaching DVD. I used FairUse but that created a single AVI for the whole DVD.

I've seen a product called Cucusoft Ultimate DVD Converter Cucusoft® Official - DVD to iPod,iPhone,Zune,PSP,MP4 Video Converter which seems to be more like what I need, in that you start the DVD, select the scene or chapter and then start the recording. So you could end up with a few wmv or avis for the scenes you chose.

Are there any alternatives? Preferably using free tools to achieve the same, but without too much complexity or being very time-connsuming.

If I was doing this stuff all the time I'd buy the product but as it's just one or maybe two DVDs I would prefer to spend the money on a new SD card instead.

TIA
