For about the price of a super cap shipped from Mouser, I got one of these shipped to my door:

Dell Axim X51v Battery Extender : (5 Star Rating) Google Checkout available.

I know it's bulky to carry, but it should enable me to change my X51v battery without a soft reset, while providing a means of emergency power.

I'm not really interested in soldering today ;) Or soldering again next year.... :sigh:

UPDATE:

I received the portable unit, and it's working great. I'm using NiMH eneloops instead of the recommended alkaline, and it's brought my battery from a 80% to a full charge while running. It also allows me to change the main battery.

I can't believe I ordered it Friday night and got it today (Monday) (new year's eve!)
