I know from experience how tricky it is to get an adhoc ics and network share working.
It would be far simpler to get a Wifi router and connect it to your ADSL.
Then you can connect both the PC and the PPC to the wifi and share them easily that way.
Wifi routers are very cheap these days.
I know that doesn't help with what you have, but just a thought.
