Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post
Thanks Silas for your post, that thing is massive, I'll definitely read it all over and see :).

I actually thought I posted more here, but it turns out I got into a Private Message thread with Axxantis the guy who started this thread originally, along with the guy at Spectec, and never got around to posting publically.

I tried a bunch more things, and I actually killed my card pretty much. I managed to reset it by using GPS Tweak I believe and doing about 10 Hard Resets. Somehow I figured out how with that software to RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS on the actual card, there were tons of warnings that it might wreck the card but I did it and it finally fixed it. I'd broken it by changing it to Sirf and then exiting the program without resetting to NMEA and lost all the settings. After that I haven't tried messing with it for fear of losing it all.

Here though is a set of correspondence between me and the first poster, as well as with Spectec's Tech Support guy:

He sent me a test driver, it seemed a bit faster, but not by much. Still had the same probs with TomTom, though Mapopolis still works fine. Actually to try to fix it he pretty much copied and pasted what you wrote in this thread :p (FAT32 formatting, SD-Cache increase). Then I sent him this link and showed him what I'd said there and he said "ok, we'll work some more on the driver and test with your PDA and get back to you"

Here's hoping it fixes it :)

Thanks,
Peter

As for the fact SPECTEC is working on new drivers, itīs excellent news. I had already e-mailed someone on SPECTEC about this, about 2 months ago, but no one told me they where planning on writing new drivers. The person I "talked" to, however, was very nice and always responded quickly (henry-AT-spectec-dot-com-.tw).

Never mind that last bit - thanks .

I did a Factory Reset with some SW and got it back tothe original state, now it works just as well as before. My PDA actually works even faster now since I downgraded to an older ROM file. Unfortunately TomTom is still screwed but I was in contact with SpecTec support and he told me they are working on a new driver for it and they'll keep me updated. So it all looks good .

If you have any suggestions though, please do send

Thanks,
Peter

After reading the manual I found the GPS Tweak info and decided to give it a shot. I didn't realize it can override your original settings if you aren't careful and now I'm screwed . Holux GPS Viewer no longer picks up the GPS by default and Mapopolis Auto-Rotate doesn't work making it much more difficult to use the software.

Do you know what the defaults are on yours? I know its 38400 baud, but do you know by any chance the other settings? Like:
GGA = 1 GLL = 0 GSA = 1 GSV = 5 RMC = 1 VTG = 1 MSS = 0 User 8 = 0 User 9 = 0 User 10 = 0

For example. I'm going mad trying to fix this now driving me nuts, if you can help it'd be greatly appreciated .

Thanks man ,
Peter

I also bought an SDG-810, and I think I recieved it about the same day you made that post. It seemed pretty good at first, but I've done many hard resets and installed a bunch of different programs to try to get it to work. I've actually got 1 program at the moment which seems to work ok, have you had any luck yourself?

Peter

Hi, I just posted some more information at the forum that might help you.
I am currently using Tomtom6 with success, after a saga of tweaking!
What GPS program are you working with?

Best regards,
Axxantis
