Let's see. I was able to get the rear connections picture for your recorder.
I labeled what I believe those connections are:

With components down to 5, this should be fairly easy.

1) Direct TV Satellite Reciever
2) A/V Receiver
3) TV
4) DVD Recorder
5) 1 VCR

All speakers will be hooked up to receiver, so it is no problem, and does not need to be included in the planning.

Your first source is DirecTV. Is it HD or SD?

Second, you are in luck. Unless you want your VHS to DVD to be slightly higher quality than regular quality, you can use Coaxial Antenna from VCR to DVD Recoder.

Let's just take VCR's Coax/Antenna OUT and connect this to DVD Recorders's Coax IN. I am hoping there is a tuner or channel selector inside your DVD-R that let's you record from TV or Antenna, since they included those connections. Now, whenever you want to record from VCR, just tune to Channel 3 or 4 on your DVD-R, and hit record button.

I am assuming you will not need to record anything to your VCR anymore.
If you would like to do that, your VCR probably still has the TV-IN or RCA IN connectors available on the back. Just check the back of your DirecTV to see if it has multiple TV-OUT connectors and hook that to your VCR.

Now, remember, DVD Recorders in the market do not allow you to record high definition content directly to DVD, therefore they do not offer anything higher than S-VIDEO connection for feeding video to DVD-R.

If your DirecTV receiver is HD, you will need to use two set of cables (one to record, one to watch)

For the recording, hook your RCA/Composite OR if DirecTV has, S-Video output to your DVD-R's S-Video INPUT, and connect the audio Left and Right using the same port (Red and White). So, either Red-White-Yellow from same output to IN section which I highlighted with RED above, or S-VIDEO, WHITE, YELLOW to the same place. It looks like DVD-R shares the Audio port with both S and RCA video input.

For the watching HD on your TV, just hook your Component (RED/GREEN/BLUE) cables to your TV and tune into the selected channel on your TV to watch Satellite. I am hoping that DirecTV did not block simultaneous broadcast from both Component and Composite or Component and S-Video at the same time. (My ScientificAtlanta 8300 HD box from Time Warner allows me to use two separate outputs at the same time)

I just can't see if your DVD-R has Optical Out (to carry all 5 Channels from same port or not)
