I haven't managed to install the new LCD yet because one screw for the internal plate won't come out. I'm going to wait until I'm back in the U.S.A. to get a good, tiny screwdriver that will remove it, as I don't want to strip it any further than I already have.

That internal screw should come out with a good phillips screwdriver. I hope you are able to extract it without damaging the filler. Maybe if you get the other 3 out, you can 'pivot' the filler around a bit to jar it loose.
