s/k I would invite you outside the bar, into a household where volunteers gathered (choose a side, either one) to watch returns together. I would invite you to churches, community centers, polling places--any number of places across that state and the country. Perhaps some public celebrations, including the ones I saw on tv, look like rock concerts, but those are simply public rituals of display that allow people to express deeper wishes and concerns. Americans are anxious right now because of our economic mistakes, our wars, our relationship with the world, and public parties are simply one response. We're also amazed with the historic nature of this election. Step away from the bar and its street, and I'll show you some other Americans.

edit: consider also the substantive speeches both candidates gave last night. I thought both were sober and significant.
