My very first PDA-like device was the Psion Sierra. Ah, back then that was a wonderful device. When it broke, however, I upgraded to the Series 5, then quickly got a 5mx when I saw how much better they were. I still have both of those, somewhere. Nothing at the time compared.
My first PDA-proper was the top of the range Axim X5, with Wifi card and MASSIVE (at the time) 512Mb SD card. Again, when I bought it, it blew away the competion in terms of spec-for-price. I kept that for a couple of years - adding satnav accessories amongst other things, then bought a Axim X50v, just weeks before I found out about the X51v. C'es la vie. I sold the X5 and all the various accessories to someone who wanted a cheap satnav setup. I think he might still be using it. For the X50v, I bought multitudinous cases and two cradles, plus extended batteries etc. I quickly became an addict of AximSite, which helped tweak and customise both those devices. It wasn't too long before I upgraded the X50v to WM5.
Last year, when I began having issues with the X50v's main port, I decided to go the converged device route, and got myself an HTC Advantage X7500. Good thing too - now I can't charge the X50v directly and one of the cradles is broken. I still have it, right here - but I'm not using it and I don't want to spend the money to fix something I wouldn't use.
Thanks to XDA-Developers, the Advantage runs SO much better than it did when I got it. Browsing, emails and spreadsheets on that screen are something I will never give up, but a few months agao I decided that it wasn't practical as a phone; plus my tariff (£0 - yes, zero - per month for more calls than I actually use) had no data component - so I got a cheap phone for my voice calls. Now the Advantage has a SIM in that I only use for HSDPA access ("unlimited" for £5/month PAYG), and it is my constant companion, wherever I am.
Right now, though, I'm missing the functionality of a having a WM device as my phone, so I've been looking hard at the Touch HD - but do I want to spend that kind of money, as I would still be using the Advantage for internet, office work navigating and watching videos? I really don't know. Currently I'm waiting to see if O2 UK will offer it as an upgrade...
