As more converged devices get GPS I hope that more "non-car" functionality would be provided. I think I've read that some packages cater well for those walking. Can be different routes here given one-way roads etc. Catering for buses would be a beaut idea. An example might illustrate. I had to visit a specialist located in a suburb on a long windy bus route in an area I'd never visited before. Had to pay much attention to street signs on the way, matching to a paer directory and the bus map. It would have been lovely to have the PDA GPS alert me prior to the stop closest (by walking route) to his address.
Since it was a nice day I walked back to the nearest main bus exchange rather than wait for the bus. Walking directions would have been good and would have meant I wouldn't have had to carry a paper directory. At least Canberra's is small. Carrying a Sydney or Melbourne directory would have been a significant annoyance on the 1/2 hour walk back.
