At the risk of getting caught up in this very confusing conservation
How are you connecting your USB cable to your computer? If you are connecting through a hub, especially a NON powered hub, please connect to a primary USB port.
If your computer still doesn't see your device, while your device is still plugged in, run window update feature from your Vista computer. If WMDC is not already on your computer, Windows update should find the proper drivers and the most recent version of WMDC for you.
