if you don’t need 3g network then as suggested it is good 4 your health (lower radiation) and battery life to switch to 2G network
the normal way is by entering your phone/option/band
but you can also go phone/option/network then select manual
from the list tap on the gsm 2g net (but this option is not good if you constantly sw networks)
if you need to download/upload files then switch to 3G

if you don’t use pushmail then I recommend you go programs/activesync/menu/add server
now fill in the fields with gust dummy words and make a dummy server (unmark the sync option)
After doing so go on activesync to menu/timetable/ and select manual (it will be "as item arrive ")
now exit AS and close this task

if you use pushmail then I recommend of working with pullmail that will check your email every "X" minutes
(you can set it X=5min if you want to get fast mail or x=60min if it is not important, you can also set different timing during the day)
