Don't leave the navigation software running when you power off. That is not a clean way to exit. THe software needs to disconnect correctly from the COM port, which it does when you exit the software first, then power down the Ax. Same for Bluetooth, it will lose it's connection if you power off with devices connected and require that you reconnect manually. You don't need to soft reset, but you do need to go through the pairing process again if you power off with BT connected. The all in ones like the Garmins go through a shutdown process when you hit the power button, but because the Axim is not a single-purpose machine, the system cannot handle power off exits.
So, when you want to shut down, first stop the navigation software, then you can power down the AX. next time, power it up and then restart the navigation software. That should be more reliable.
