The battery latch open is a common problem.
The little feet on the latch don't quite push the little button.
You can fix that with nail polish, tape, and even remove the switch altogether.

Do a search for Battery latch and you should find some good answers.
I'm mobile so can't really look for you.

The system will revert to that date if the "back up" battery is out of charge.
If you fix the door latch problem then the backup may charge up again, but you may need to replace it or live with the date problem if you switch batteries, there is a work around for that also.
