To improve refresh time, have you tried to un-check pre-packaged channels you don’t want to subscribe to in the "config menu " Nomad’s Channel Tab: this way heavy data unwanted channels won’t be refreshed anymore.

There are more than 200MB of content with the full initial channel package.
