For me the graphing capability IS the basic function of Excel. I often check trends of data or comparing a parameter across different set of data. A plot or graph is far preferred than looking across a bunch of #'s.

True for performance hit but for me this is a basic feature. But it's also a function of how efficient M$ write it.
I purchased QuickOffice for Palm and it did come with graphing capability. For a product to be called Pocket Excel, I do think it better has graphing capability too.
Just my 2cents though...
