Can't move stuff from one 51v to another

I don't know if this is the best forum, here goes.

My screen cracked. I called Dell on Thursday afternoon---BY FRIDAY NOON I HAD A REPLACEMENT DELIVERED TO MY HOME. (The "everything warranty" is worth the $$).

I'm going NUTS (spent about 9 hours so far, trying to move all my stuff from the cracked screen AXIM to the new one. The original one has Pocket Breeze and Pocket Informant installed. I somehow thought that I could just do a back up onto an SD card, pop it into the new one, and all the data, contacts, documents and programs would be installed on the new one. Nope.

Then I tried using Activesync.........it saves to the computer, but I can't get it to sync back to the new Axim. Well the Notes and the Word documents sync okay, but not the contacts and calendar.

So that's question number one.......can someone just walk me through a simple step by step way to get those things transferred?

Question #2....I might have been a little naive in thinking that the programs would just synch over? Do I reinstall them from the desktop?
