Scratching your head? Scratch away!! :)
I'm never "quite certain" about upgrades to new versions. As I said, I usually wait until initial bugs shake out on new Windows PC versions. (Witness those who dove headfirst into Windows ME!) Why not wait now for this? My Axim's working fine right now, and I'm not certain just what added functionality I'll gain with 2003 that can't wait a bit. Why are some folks chomping at the bit to get it right now? If there's a big jump in performance and/or functionality, I'm sure I can read all about it here and jump on the bandwagon when I feel comfortable they've got it right.
I really think all the gnashing of teeth right now is somewhat overblown, but all the same, since Dell isn't yet acknowledging an issue with PPC 2003 (and three of the techs I spoke with -- that I could understand -- insisted that there are no issues and PPC 2003 is working just fine and zero complaints have been registered with Dell), I'm perfectly content to operate with PPC 2002 and wait until the issues smooth out. Considering the quality (or lack thereof) of Dell's tech support for Axims, I'm not as confidant as you are that the CD shipments will be delayed for the fix.
My primary uses currently are Contacts, GPS mapping while on business travel, and Pocket Word and Excel. And they're all working great with PPC 2002! No need to for me to change until it's all smoothed out!
