BT ActiveSync

Hi there

Afraid for me it was a case of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it!"....except that I did just that!!!

I thought I'd get a bluetooth PCMCIA card so that I could get back one of my USB ports - I had a bluetooth USB dongle - everything worked just fine with that.

Anyway, when I installed the BT card, the software removed all existing BT devices and although I can get my Nokia 6230i to communicate with my laptop, my Dell is having none of it!!

It appears the main reason is because the COM port number available on my laptop is now up at 22 & 23!! I've done all the stuff about seeing "hidden devices" and removing unwanted COM ports, but unfortunately, since I installed this BT card, no other ports even show up to delete!!??

So it would appear that ActiveSync will only see COM 4 and my Axim 7 & 8....it seems that I can't change my laptop's COM port number to match. I did see somewhere that you can remove the WIDDCOMM bluetooth driver (which is what I am using on my laptop), and revert back to the Windows driver so that you can change the COM port number.

I'm really cheesed off with this - shouldn't have fiddled around with it in the first place, but it seemed a really good move to try and free up a USB port!

If anyone else has any further thoughts on how to go about this, I'd be really grateful!!.....will post back if I get any further with it!

BTW, I've just installed ActiveSync 4 too, seems OK at the moment!

Chris.
