I had upgraded to WM5 about 4 to 5 times within the past 6 months.

When upgrading I can always getting WM5 to run without very little errors. It seem like every month there is more and more fixes and patches that are posted on Aximsite for me to give it another try. Each time it does get better and better and that is what is misleading.

For at first it seems to run great. But after a couple of weeks weird stuff start to happen. I just went back to wm2003se a couple of days ago myself. This time I had WM5 running for over 4 weeks and running great.

Then I installed a program that turn out to be not compatible with WM5. After it locked up trying to run it. I got the white screen of death after the restart. I did this a couple of times and didn't get the white screen of death but it locked up before it finish loading.

I decide to do hard reset. I didn't have that last installed backup and figure that it should put the unit back to where it was before. Well I did the hard reset.

I notice as my PDA had started up that the alignment screen where the plus sign in was going very very slow as it was going to each corning of the PDA. I then went to restore and it didn't worked. Not only did it not put it back the way it should have been by backing it up but it also clear many of the programs that came with WM5 on it as well.

I am thinking that this really sucks.

I was using the backup program that came with WM5.

So I got mad and said to hell with this and rolled back to 2003se.

I now notice on how much faster my unit runs again. Almost like it has hyper drive.

So back to your question. You can upgrade to WM5 and yes doing all the patches and fixes you can get it to work. So that the question. It just how long will it work before something does go wrong and then what can be done to correct it beside having to roll it back.

Something else you should ask yourself is this. If all of these patches and registry hacks does work. Then why hasn?t Microsoft or Dell release some sort of upgrade fix for it as of yet? At least one that has all of these fixes build into it where you can turn the unit on and it would work correctly by itself.
