I only use activesync on my pc for aquiring the cab files needed to install programs from the sd card. I never put the x51v in the cradle. After installation the cab files resides in \program files\Microsoft activesync or \program files\[company or program name here]. Just copy them to a memorycard and giggle a bit over microsofts' crappy activesync implementation.
If anything goes wrong on the road I can always do a hard reset and install all my programs from the sd card. What's important is to create backups of personal data(documents, passwords, e-mail etc.).
