I've been walking this power issue road for quite awhile now. I've learned along the way from people like DarkDestroyer and PocketBrain and I tend to participate in the power threads. Unfortunately, i'm super tired and don't want to rehash the info over again so what i'll do is post the results of a search using my username.

Just pick out the power threads and start reading. It's been an evolutionary and enlightening road for me to be sure. The discourse with PocketBrain was especially helpful. Check out his regulated battery extender!

I'll make a couple of comments though:

- if you want to get rid of the cradle and don't care about using the Ax while it's charging then get any usb sync cable. It won't charge your Ax while it's on because of usb power restrictions limiting charging to (usually) 500mAh

- if you want to charge and use your Ax while in the car then you'll need a couple of things. A replacement or OEM high current connector dongle and a 12v car charger that's capable of pushing out 850mAh at the very least or more. There are some models out there that actually push out 2A at 5v which will work great.
