I solved the issue of the ActiveSync critical error 86000209 by only syncing the headers in my Outlook mailbox for the last 3 days. If I do more that that or add the 3KB of an email, I get the error. I use a Motorola Q with AS4.1 and Outlook 2003 SP2.
