If you want to move files from the computer to the SD card on the PDA, you need to setup an FTP server on the PDA.
If you want to use the PDA to access shared files on the computer, you can just map to the share.
So - on your PDA you can access the computer with no additional software, however the computer cannot see the PDA without additional software.
If you're still using a version of AS prior to v4 that supports Wifi sync then you can wifi sync the PDA and it will appear on the computer and you can access it that way too.

Hmm..... I think you are mistaken. I meant you set up the FTP server on the DESKTOP, and keeping in mind that you can not only download via FTP, but also upload.
P.S. A free ftp server is FileZilla.
