"Putting an FTP server on the computer does not allow Eddie to write directly to his SD card from his computer. With an FTP server on the computer he cannot PUSH the files to the SD card."
I use the client on the Axim to connect to the FTP server on the PC, and then I can specify any destination folder on the Axim for to write the downloads, including the SD card, so actually I have FTP'd down directly to the SD card.
I have been running an FTP server on and off for years as friends want specific files that are too big for their email server to accept. So many ISPs limit a file attachment to 2meg. And now broadband so easily available these days I think it's time to lift that limit, or extend it to 10 meg.
I remember a day at work that some "cute" flash attachment was the rage, and as the pass-around exponentially reached 50 users sending it to 5 people each, wow did the mail server die a quick, painful death.... The attachment was 6 megs, and 50 people tried to sent it all at once to almost 300 recipients. All for something as stupid as the gerbil dance or something equally silly as that. Might have been the macaroni macherina....
