Yeah, me too...
I'm out too. I ordered an Axim X5 Advanced on June 29; got it in early July. I came over from a Sony Clié N610 and want to pay what Sony was pricing the new Cliés. So I researched and researched and went for the Axim.
Boy, was I disappointed. At first I thought maybe it was just me. Applications would run fairly quickly, then inexplicably, hang. Or just run slowly, then run faster again. (Diamond Mine was particularly frustrating. It'd start out okay, then get really slow, then run okay again, then run slow...you get the idea). Same with other applications. Plus the Ambicom CF 802.11b wireless NIC wouldn't work properly most of the time (but when it did, I must admit it was pretty cool). At least I could see the potential of the Axim and MM2003.
I've gotta go out-of-town for three weeks and had hoped to have a functioning Axim with MM2003 to take with me. It quickly became apparent to me that Dell just "didn't get it". I started reading the forums here at Aximsite and Brighthand and quickly came to the conclusion that I wasn't the only one having problems with the Dell running MM2003. And Dell wasn't even acknowledging the problem. Then, belatedly it seems, Dell did say "they" discovered a problem (yeah, I guess so with users screaming about it).
So with the upcoming trip looming, I decided I had to give up on the Axim, too. I took advantage of a CompUSA sale on PDAs and picked up a Toshiba e755. It has built-in WiFi, and guess what? It works. It's also NOT slow (Microsoft Reader actually opens instead of just hanging like it did on the Dell) and most apps are pretty snappy. I took advantage of the Office Depot deal on the extended battery ($48.01 for a 3000MAH battery) and $7 for a travel/sync cable. $13 for the standard Toshiba leather case and I'm ready to go.
Sorry if that cranks off some of the die-hard Axim users and I believe you when you say the Axim is a great PPC. It's not (yet) with MM2003, and I just can't (and won't) wait.
And, yeah, I know the forums all say Toshiba tech support sucks. Maybe it does. Guess I'm willing to take that chance with a PPC that works out-of-the-box.
