You can use FeederReader on your device to download podcasts directly to your device.
There's an install video that shows the steps you need to follow to install FeederReader. It even includes grabbing the latest Compact Framework, if necessary, and shows you where to look to check if you have the latest.

To play many of the video podcasts, you might need to download a media player that can play them. I recommend TCPMP, but there are many choices available. See the Pocket PC Media Chart for a list of the options:
