That's the million dollar question...
I'll admit the analogy is not quite the same.... but I wouldn't expect to be able to do a backup of a Win98 machine, install XP, then expect my Win98 backup to work
Heck, even if you don't have to start clean, I've got some odd 30+ programs installed on my SD card, and I'll bet a good number of them would have to be unstalled and versions supporting 2003 reinstalled.
