It's really easy to convert any .LIT to .TXT Just select all and CTRL-C open word/notepad CTRL-V. If you are going to look into iSilo, they have a convertor that can do any text document and HTML called iSiloX for windows. It's just a convertor. Then after you have your .LIT as a text file, open it in iSiloX and convert it. You'll have to read up on all the settings, but it's a great program.
As for legallity, I own all the Potter books in hard copy, plus the 5th book on CDs. I just let someone else waste time scanning it in. I should legally be allowed to have an e-copy on my handheld since I have the ability to make it myself. I have a scanner that came with OCR software, but you never know these days.
