themegenCE will help you make a vga wm5 compliant theme, it will allow you to reformat the image, as well as change colors and other settings for the theme. Remember, depending on the quality of the image, resizing may not give the result that you want. Google for it, the site is in French, but there is an english version.
You may have to back to a master image and make the image the right size and color density to begin with. The vga screen often shows up original photo /image / paint irregularities.
