WM 2003 Upgrade Issues
First off, I'd like to say that those people (especially people who never bought the WM 2003 upgrade) who are trying to flash from PPC 2002 to 2003 using the ROM update are essentially installing illegal software, and in a matter of speaking you are abusing Dell's trust when it comes to offering a downloadable copy of the patch.
Microsoft actually licences a copy of the PPC OS, be it 2002 or 2003 to each Axim (and thus each Axim owner). The reason you pay for the 2003 upgrade is that you are essentially paying for a upgrade license, as you would when you upgrade from Windows Me to XP for example. If people manage to get this update to update PPC 2002 machines to WM 2003, I'm assuming that Dell would get in some hot water with Microsoft. Dell would most likely decide not to distribute future updates in this form, in other words, if a situation similar to this were to happen in the future, people would probably have to wait for patch CDs instead. Or even worse, they would decide to pull this update now in favor of mailing CDs out. In the end, chances are that you will only be hurting other Axim owners like yourselves in the future.
------------------------
On the other hand, I'm wondering what the common thread is between all of the Axim users experiencing the freeze-up issue when they are trying to upgrade thier Axims. When considering the fact that the symptoms seem to be identical in each case. I think that there is some element in your setups' that is conflicting with the upgrade process. I think that at this point it is important to figure out if this is a problem on the PC end, or the Axim end.
Are you guys using virus scanners? are they enabled? Are you using McAfee for the Axim, is it enabled? Were you having ActiveSync issues before with large files? Did you use built-in storage? Are you using a USB hub? What model Axim do you guys have? I'm thinking that somewhere along the line something is obviously preventing the transfer from starting. I think that if all of you focus on finding out what aspect of your setups are similar/dissimilar, you will be able to narrow it down and figure out what the cause of the problem is.
