Look for Slimserver. I had an old PC that was connected to the back of my stereo, that was connected running Win2k and connected to my server (a Mac, but SlimServer works in Windows, linux etc. too) via wifi.
From my PPC I can open a web browser and configure the playlists etc. remotely. The PC connected to the stereo didn't have a monitor, if I REALLY needed to get to it I'd use VNC, but I could do everything from the web page on the PPC anyway,
