First, take a look at my posted message: "I wrote about this about two weeks ago, but the problem seemed resolve itself, so I went no further. Now, the issue has arisen again. When I got home last night I docked my X51V and it synched okay with my home computer. Later, I was having some issues with my Spb Pocket Plus so I uninstalled it and then reinstalled. After that I couldn't get my Axim to synch with the desktop. I went to bed and tried in the a.m.. but still no luck. When I got the office this a.m. the same thing happened on my work pc. - no synch. When I left work last evening the synching was working fine. At work I uninstalled MS activeSync 4.2 and reinstalled it, but still no synch. I have tried multiple soft resets without success. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts short of a hard reset, ugh?"
I think your issue has to do with the firewall. I went to microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/mcafee.mspx. McAfee is my personal firewall product that I downloaded from Comcast, my ISP. I followed the instructions that they suggested about added in certain information to the firewall, and voila, it worked, almost immediately, as if the dreaded black cloak had been lifted. I am unsure as to which firewall, if any, that you use, but perhaps, it will work for you. If you need more information, let me know. Go to the MS website/windows mobile and find your firewall. Good luck!

Don't let anyone tell you its the firewall. I have had the same issues on both my work computer and home computer. The thing will connect and synch on both computers flawlessly for 2 or 3 days, then the next night on my home computer it will not connect...and the next morning on my work computer it will not connect. Then I soft reset, then I redo my relationships, then I soft reset again, then I revert to a saved system from several days ago, and then it works again for 2 or 3 days and then I go through the same cycle all over again. I first thought it was my Pocket Weather connection. Got an upgrade. Turned it on and off. Worked for a few days. Then wouldn't connect again. Then I thought there was a problem with my Spb backup. I quit backing up automatically. Worked for a couple of days, then wouldn't connect again. How could any of this be the firewall? On two differenct computers...it works, then doesn't - works, then doesn't. When do you give up and accept that the primary purpose of this thing - calendar and contacts, doesn't work and spending a half hour almost every day trying to make it connect just isn't worth it anymore?
