What worked for me:
There is a way to display the unactive (hidden, old, whatever) device drivers
in the Windows Device Manager. It's a DOS command line, I'll try to remember
to post it when I get home.

Then you delete all the Dell USB device drivers, and reinstall ActiveSync.
I also reinstalled ROM A12, but in hindsight I don't think this is necessary.

If a google search doesn't provide the command line, post up and tonight I'll
add it here.
