X51V & Aximizer as Carputer: Video demonstration
Video file
(EDIT 11.04.06) Other webs where you can see the video:
YouTube, justanothermobilemonday, Solsie, ingope.in.ohost.de
Video shows car setup to use X51V & Aximizer as Carputer providing following features: - Bluetooth GPS Navigation
- Fast tap Bluetooth dialling.
- Music
- Movies (not for the driver of course)
- Online car diagnostics.
Car setup components: - X51V + Ratoc USB Host + Aximizer
- Bluetooth GPS
- Bluetooth Cell phone.
- 7” VGA TFT w/touchscreen
- HD USB + Power inverter (12vDC to 220vAC 300w).
- Car diagnostics OBD-II to RS232 adaptor.
- USB and SD slots built at car front panel.
- (Optional USB keyboard) (EDIT 10.21.06)
REMARKS: - Only one mass storage device can work at a time. Not shown in video but car front panel USB & SD slots behaves following way: while having HD USB connected all the time, when plugging a SD card or USB memory it becomes the active mass storage device. When removing it HD becomes active automatically.
- Not shown in video but a keyboard connected to car front panel USB slot also works fine.
- Mass storage devices and keyboard use Ratoc supplied driver. Touchscreen uses eGalax driver.
- M|N5 is not my preferred Navigator, but is the only one I found that behaves properly with following features at a time: mirror mode + horizontal layout + minimize, as video shows.
- I know fast tap dialling is not fast enough :) , less taps are required. Still searching for better software.
- I know, I know, I have to skin it a lot
.
- I am not using motorized in-dash TFT because I could not find anyone able to adjust left & right orientation.
- My current car diagnostics adaptor is a very simple model that does not change non-standard car baud rate of 10400baud. It only partially works with VagCheck if I reduce CPU speed to the minimum of 104MHz. VagCheck display does not have horizontal mode so video demonstration is done on PDA screen. I am to buy an adaptor based on microcontroller ELM323, there are a lot of very nice programs to work with it.
(Edit 10.06.06) A TO DO list has been added at post #15.
