Both WM5 and Active sync is crap.
I synchronize my MDA-Vario and iPAQ 3680 via two pc's (WXP and W2kPro). Each uses its own pc because otherwise it won't work at all. Both connect to the same pst file in my network. Most of the time my MDA-Vario won't synchronize at all. Tonight I got that same message as you. Still looking for the solution.
