MMC is "forward compatible" with SD, SD is not "backward compatible" with MMC.
An SD card is just like an MMC card, except thicker, with 9 pins instead of 6 or whatever, with a write-protection lock, and with some weird setup that makes it safer for copyrighted files. or something.
