In the GPS software (IGuidance3) I set the setting for Auto Detect the gps settings and it came up with the right com port but a slower bps. I manually changed the bps to something higher once it was found.

My GPS decided to work with settings for the Serial6 registry key in what is called Serial8. In other words it works now without renaming the key.
I don't know why it did not work two days ago... And the activesync works too at the same time. So, as long as it keeps working I will be happy (well, after I fix some other unrelated mysteries). Thanks for helping.
