It could be device specific. But the 2003 bug was widely reported. There's a little program to remove bum notifications. It was designed for wm2003, but it may be compatible with wm5. I would do a backup before trying it. It has a function to clear notifications at startup. Please report back to the forum if you find that it works. Here's the link
