My opinion on offering samples is that they should offer two options:
1) Full song, but in a "far-below-radio-quality" encoding....so that you can hear all of the lyrics.
2) Also offer a 25-30 second clip (like most do anyhow) at a listenable quality....to see if you like the full "sound" of the song.
