Aximsitebluetoothicon I finally fixed my Bluetooth Sync issues, here is how I did it

I am running an Axim x51V synced to an XP Home system. In order to get Bluetooth to synchronize and not drop out I have tried several Dongles. I started with the cheep ones. They kept dropping out and then not being recognized when I would try to re-sync. The green wheal would just spin and spin. I have read a lot about the problem with unsigned drivers. I tried a Belkin dongle and thought it was working but then it all started up again. I then chose to buy the most expensive dongle the Lynksys with a nice signed driver and found I still had the same problem. With determination, I have gotten the thing to work using the following and I suspect it may work for all the dongles I have in my drawer but I will stick with Linksys for now. What I am doing is running both a Bluetooth network connection and the ActiveSync connection at the same time and all is well. To set it up this is what I did.

First I set up NetworkAccess as a service on the PC in the following way:

Open the Network Connections folder.
• Right click the local area network connection and click Properties.
• Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
• Click Advanced.
• Click WINS.
• Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.

Next, I joined the Network through the New menu in the PDA

Joining the Personnel Network on the PDA
• Go to Bluetooth Manager
• Click New
• Click Join a Personel Network
• Select Join a personal network:
• Select your PC
• In the “Shortcut Creation” section check both boxes and the connection name should match your computer.
• Click finish

You should then have the network established. A window will popup asking if you want to select internet or work, I selected work.

I went back to Open the Network Connections folder.
• Right click the Bluetooth Network and click Properties.
• Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
• Click Advanced.
• Click WINS.
• Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.

I went to the Network Wizard and set the computer up according to the directions in the wizard for file sharing.

I restarted the PC (and reset the PDA just to do it)
I went back to the Bluetooth Manager
• First I hit the Network Icon
o This joined up the network with the PC, it takes several minutes to fully start. It works best if the network is fully established before trying to start ActiveSync.
• Then I hit the ActiveSync icon

The computer continuously synchronizes for hours now. I have had one drop out but that was when the network was not established. I think things would go quicker if I set up a static IP address. I think that is the next step.
