Well, both methods actually install the very same app.
The easiest way is through activesync. Just click the exe, and it will install. It may take a while for the " install/remove programs' applet to come up, especially if you have a lot of programs installed. This method also has the advantage of being able to remove/re-install from this activesync applet. Lastly, this method lets you choose where to install it
On the other hand, if you copy the CAB file to your Ax (you can to this easy if you right-click the file and use the send to context menu to put it in your ppc my doc folder), you can install it by tapping this file on your axim. This will be a faster process. Also, if you connect directly to the Internet with your ppc, you will want to use this method (no need for a desktop). Furthermore, you can store a copy of this file on your storage card, to re-install if neccesary, on the road. Out-of the box, this method won't allow you to choose the place to install it to, but will install to the default directory (always in main memory). A utility that allows you to choose a directory and prevent the file from being deleted automatically is called Cabinst. I hink there's a link to this util in the dowload page on this site. Actually you can find these CAB files in subdirectories of AS for all apps you have installed.

Hope this helps you to decide which method to use :)
