Don't get me wrong... as far as eye candy and showing off the PPC, AOE beats most games out there. (GTS Racing is pretty amazing, though). I just had a hard time with a couple things that made it difficult for me to enjoy as much as the desktop (of course I couldn't whip the desktop out of my pants pocket, so there's something for AOE pocket).

I find responding to attacks in areas outside of the screen difficult - seems hard to determine where they are happening. Also, the difficulty with selecting units does get me down. I can't tell you how many villagers I've sent off into Neverland (tm). A final thing that I find difficult is the reduced AI. The AI is VERY bad. Once, I had 4 fishing boats in a wide bending channel that managed to pile themselves up each time they came back with fish... even if I spaced them out when I sent them fishing. I finally solved it by making another Dock just around the bend so that the computer didn't have to figure out how to move the boats around the point. And I find that villagers are just as dumb. I need to hold their hand all the way during a long walk or they get stuck on a tree or behind a rock.

One last thing is the similarity between gold and rock. It doesn't make much of a difference now that I've figured it out, but the first few games that I played sure were frustrating.

Anyway, I agree that AOE is entertaining, but I just don't have the stamina on it that I did with the desktop and find some of my other LESS EXPENSIVE games as entertaining.

Best,
Erik
